We build and collect things we like seeing in the world.

Two halves of the same habit — the products we wanted to exist, and the art we love living with.

Olive Oil

Private · In production

Running a business and a life out of the same accounts, with no tool that understood the split.

A personal finance OS that pulls in every bank and card account through Plaid. An AI labeling pipeline — confidence scoring plus a rule engine — auto-categorizes each transaction as personal or Chikin business. Anything it isn't sure about drops to a human review queue, and a GST-aware CSV export handles Canadian tax reporting.

Hakobiya

Every group trip ends the same way — a chaotic group chat full of "can you grab me X?"

Hakobiya turns that chaos into a structured trip board. The traveler shares one link; friends file requests with budgets, quantities, and flex notes. Everything moves through package-tracker statuses — Queued, Looking, Bought, Couldn't Find — with WhatsApp pings and a "Copy for Claude" export for location-aware shopping intel.

運び屋 — carrier. With a slight courier-smuggler connotation that fits.

Daybook

daybooklog.com In development

Instagram felt wrong for documenting a son's life. Too public. Too algorithmic.

A private photo journal for parents who want the quiet alternative. Chronological entries, no algorithm, no likes. Grandparents get a shareable link — no account needed. Photos, videos, and notes group into sets: a trip, a milestone, a year. Built to last 20+ years at roughly $2/month at scale.

Hono Minimalist Blog

Nobody had published a Hono personal blog template. Plenty of API starters — nothing for personal sites.

Built samchan.ca in 72 hours using Hono — a framework normally reserved for APIs — deployed on Cloudflare Workers with content in KV. After shipping, the architecture was extracted and open-sourced as a fork-and-go template for anyone who wants a lightweight blog without reaching for Astro.

Dragonfruit

dfruit.app Live · Beta

Baby food trackers were built for Western diets. Congee, tofu, and bok choy were never first-class foods.

A baby food tracker for multicultural families. Two-tap logging, allergen tracking, and AI-generated weekly meal plans that treat congee and bok choy the same as oatmeal and pureed pears. Free beta, privacy-first — no ads, no PII sent to the model.

Physical, wearable, a toy, a print — collected slowly, on purpose. The build and the collection are the same instinct: keep what's worth keeping, make what isn't there yet. chikin.eth in the wild.
About

chikin is a scratch-built studio based in Vancouver. Scratch-built because every product here started as a personal itch — no roadmap, no market sizing, just something missing from our own lives. We build products, advise early-stage startups, and back things we believe in. Small on purpose.
